Information on Bundanoon

Population: 2731 (1996 census)

Bundanoon is on the southern edge of settlement of the Highlands, on the edge of the deep valleys and escarpments of the Great Dividing Range.

First mentioned by explorer Charles Throsby (1818), the towns name is derived from the original Aboriginal inhabitants' word for "place of deep gullies".

The Southern Highlands is about 1 1/2 hours south-west of Sydney on the freeway, and a similar distance from the nation's capital, Canberra.

Take the M5 from Sydney and turn left at MacDonalds exit marked Bundanoon/Exeter

It lies atop the Great Dividing Range (700 metres above sea level), from where the land falls away to the level plains of the inland. The climate is mild in summer, to cold in winter.
